Media Chair offers surround sound

If you’re all about being immersed in you music, this chair is definitely the way to pull that off. With the speakers right up around your head, and the cozy look of the chair, you’ll be able to get lost for hours. I just wish it were a swivel chair, then it’d have that command center type appeal. Although, you could get that super villain kind of look if you picked up the black version of the chair. Read the rest of this entry...

Vers unveils new cases for iPod and iPhone

With the world going nuts about going green these days, it goes without saying that you ain’t in without being green. After all, we are responsible for handing over a sustainable earth to the next generation, and like an old saying goes, we don’t hand over the earth to our kids – instead, we borrow it from them. That ought to put things into perspective in the long run, and it is nice to know that companies have stepped up the effort of going green by being way more serious than they used to be....

Belkin’s Universal Media Reader

I don’t know about you, but I have way too many memory cards. My cell phone has a micro SD, my camera has an SD, not to mention all the other gadgets I have. Even though I want all the files on these mobile devices to eventually make their way into my computer, it somehow just never happens. I suppose this is why most of the newer computers have card-reading slots. Too bad I don’t have one of those. I did have access to the Belkin Universal Media Reader, and I’m now able to get all my scattered...

Engineer builds a microscope with $10 in parts and a cellphone

First there was the One Laptop Per Child laptop for under $100, now an engineer has created a $10 do it yourself microscope out of a cellphone! The vision of engineering professor Aydogan Ozcan of UCLA, the microscope uses a cellphone and ten dollars ($10) of off the shelf parts. The idea is pretty groundbreaking and could help doctors who seek to diagnose illnesses in the “bush” areas of the third world where sophisticated lab equipment simply isn’t available. The idea is pretty ingenious. Rather...

Sumo Canvas Clock Bomb shows time ticking away

I don’t know if any of you watch Total Drama Island (TDI) on the Cartoon Network (CN), but it is quite an awesome show. I swear, CN did not pay me to write that, it really is. I bring this up because the animated reality show had an episode where each character had to face their greatest fears. For one character, Cody, it was disabling a bomb under pressure. Cody would definitely not be the audience for the Sumo Canvas Clock Bomb, for he would be forced to look at a bomb that would tell the...

Cell Phone with a Built-in Projector...

Now you might have seen gadgets like this in movies, but once again science has succeeded in catching up with fiction. It's difficult to enjoy videos or movies on cell phone with friends when all you've got is a tiny 3 inch screen.

Well, Texas Instruments has got an answer for this problem.Don't use your cell phone screen, use a wall instead. They've come up with a digital light processing (DLP) "pico" projector, which can fit right into a cell phone. what..!! you don't believe me, well, watch it for yourself. The Cell phone used in the demonstration is a fake but the projector works and it is fit into the body of a cell phone.. .

The projector contains three lasers, a DLP chip and a power supply and measures about 1.5 inches in length. With the projector, the cell phone can beam DVD-quality video onto a screen or a wall, thereby allowing it to serve as a video player or a television. By using the projector, the actual "screen" size can be much larger than what a person would get by using the LCD panel integrated into the phone. The chip inside the phone, in fact, could drive images for a wide screen television.

Hundreds of thousands of microscopic mirrors inside the handset flip with tiny amounts of energy, reflecting the right colours to make up the picture.

If it needed as much power as a standard projector, the show would be over in minutes. "In designing this pico-projector, with the use of LED illumination and the chip, along with other components, we've engineered it to last longer," said Michael Guillory, head of marketing for Texas Instruments' digital light processing products.

"You want to use the cell phone, so you don't want it to take up all its power using the projector," he said. "So by designing it to last at least an hour and a half it allows our customers to manufacture a very usable device."

Well, i can think of a number of things to do with this cool gadget which i'm not going to type here, I'm sure you can think for yourself.

Dell Adamo XPS 0.4-inch thin Notebook

Dell officially announced its Adamo XPS, the latest addition to the company’s Adamo line, which is the world’s thinnest notebook PC, measuring 9.99mm or just four-tenths of an inch. With the swipe of a finger, the keyboard appears from under the display as the system is open. When opened, the body of the Adamo XPS is raised so the keyboard is angled to enhance cooling.

The attention to detail is apparent in the black, jewelry box-like packaging that is as striking as the laptop itself. A tug on a cloth loop reveals the Adamo XPS and assorted accessories that accompany the system.

Adamo, derived from the Latin word meaning "to fall in love," is a flagship in a line of products created to disrupt the personal computing space with the combination of new design aesthetics, personalization choices and sought-after technologies.

The Adamo by Dell brand was launched last March with the first Adamo laptop, which combined high-performance technologies in an aluminum case only .65-inch thick.

Other features of the new Adamo laptop include a built-in location awareness to provide real time local maps to show people where they are; replaceable battery; full size keyboard with aluminum keycaps, touchpad with gestures; 802.11n wireless; display port, 2xUSB 2.0, audio, Ethernet (via included dongle).

The pencil-thin Adamo XPS weighs just over 3 pounds and measures 13.39 x 10.71 inches. Dell expects to begin taking orders and shipping the Adamo XPS with Microsoft Windows 7 pre-installed in time for the holidays. The Adamo XPS is priced starting at $1799.

Your Personal Security USB Device

Smart Guardian combines endpoint control and secure data storage for protecting sensitive information.

Saturday, November 07, 2009: Gemalto has launched Protiva Smart Guardian, a smart card enabled personal security USB device that offers digital data integrity and data loss prevention for enterprises.

Smart Guardian combines endpoint control and secure data storage for protecting sensitive information. It claims to guarantee an unsurpassed level of security, since the encrypted data never leaves the Smart Guardian. Attempts to tamper with the device are detectable and intrusion attempts will cause the token to zero-out its contents.

Users simply insert their authorised portable token and enter a passphrase to unlock the device so that any data transferred to it is encrypted automatically.

Smart Guardian provides two-factor authentication based on something the user has – the USB token – and something the user knows – the passphrase. This ensures that only authorised users have access to encrypted data, even if the device is lost or stolen. Smart Guardian tokens are easy for IT administrators to deploy and manage, and require no user training.

“One of the biggest information security challenges today is protecting the large amount of confidential data used by business organisations and government agencies,” commented Cédric Collomb, senior vice president, identity and access management, Gemalto. “The combination of endpoint control and secure data storage makes Smart Guardian tokens the ideal platform for protecting sensitive information and controlling how these are transferred throughout the virtual workplace.”

The Smart Guardian device combines secure smart card technology from Gemalto and secure flash technology from Lexar. Its management options make it easy for end-users and administrators to register new devices, update software on the devices, deploy protected corporate applications, and remotely block a lost or stolen token and destroy its contents.

The Smart Guardian USB device 2GB is available for $79, while the 4GB model carries a price tag of $109.

Kensington USB Car Charger for iPhone and iPod

Car charging accessories are common but rarely sexy; most companies these days seem to be competing to make last year's chargers smaller rather than adding major new features. Kensington's new USB Car Charger for iPhone and iPod ($20) is a prime example, packaging a black USB-to-Dock Connector cable with a very small charging bulb -- it's only a little taller than the third-generation iPod shuffle. Merely for charging rather than audio-out, it's the smallest car charger we can recall seeing, and reasonably priced.

Company: Kensington
Website: www.Kensington.com
Model: USB Car Charger
Price: $20
Compatible: iPod 4G, 5G, classic, mini, nano, touch, iPhone, iPhone 3G,3GS
